The Visual Understanding Environment (VUE) is an Open Source project based at Tufts University. The VUE project is focused on creating flexible tools for managing and integrating digital resources in support of teaching, learning and research. VUE provides a flexible visual environment for structuring, presenting, and sharing digital information.

FlexSpaces+AIR and FlexSpaces+Browser RIA clients for Alfresco have the following Calais features (using the Calais Integration for Alfresco, also in the Calais gallery): semantic tagging, auto-tagging, semi-automatic tag suggesting, node semantic tag properties editor, multiple semantic tag clouds, automatic geo-location tagging (displayed in a google map). These clients are implemented in Flex, AIR, ActionScript and server-side REST api JavaScript web scripts. (The AIR version supports additional desktop drag/drop features). Developed by Steve Reiner (Integrated Semantics).

This Alfresco server extension leverages the Open Calais service to automatically extract semantic metadata from documents stored in Alfresco, has a semantic auto-tagging action service, tag suggest api, enables use of semantic metadata in search. Tags include linked data URIs, and provide geo-location info if available from Calais. Extracted RDF and/or JSON can be optionally associated with documents. Provides a REST api. Also adds an auto-tagging action to the Alfresco web client. The service is implemented in Java (and REST api webs scripts in server side JavaScript).
