We're headed home from three exciting and exhausting days at Mashup Camp in Mountain View, CA, and all we can say is thank you!

Thanks to the many developers who worked with Calais to create fantastic mashups and brought their creativity, innovation and dedication to the 24-to-48 hour challenge.

And the winners are...

  • Dean Mao: Most Creative Calais Mashup Overall. Dean - who went on to win best mashup overall for the entire camp for the 7th time in a row - created a Firefox extension that brings relevant news, resources and images to any web page (including Gmail) and creates a super-layer of social media commentary and shared browsing on the Web.
  • John Herren: Best Calais Mashup for News. John, who created the pioneering TagCloud in 2005, used Calais' natural language processing to take the tagcloud concept to a whole new level, enabling deep, contextual discovery.
  • Jeff Scudder: Best Calais Mashup for Business / Professional use. Jeff, who was speed geeking at Mashup Camp for the first time, created an article or blog editor assistant that seeks out relevant news, information and related Web resources while writers compose. We may be reflecting our editorial roots, but we see potential for professional application.

    • Andriy (Andrew) Bidochko: Honorable Mention. Andriy created a social media resume that got the whole room buzzing. He used Calais to process submissions to Del.icio.us, Digg and others to create a current, ad-hoc 'resume' that more vibrantly reflects one's passions and interests.

  • Calais!  What?  Yes!  Calais won Mashup Camp's Best Solution Provider Tool Contest! Many thanks to everyone who voted for us with their wooden nickel! We also thank everyone who came to our speed geeking sessions and chalktalks on Monday, as well as those who joined us for an unconference session on the Linked Data Cloud and Calais 4.0 (coming January 2009).

More!

Can't get enough mashup camp memories? Neither can we. So here is our full video of the experience, with custom music created by Clator from Phase2 Technology.  Thanks Clator!

Finally, many thanks to David Berlind, Greg Szumowski, Angela Bole and Elizabeth King for bringing such talented developers and great technologies together to put on a killer event.
