I'd like to know if Opencalais is able to work with patents.
It is actually a very different kind of format from ordinary paragraphs so that I wonder if OC can support it.

In general, Open Calais does best with some reasonable chunk of unstructured text. The best we can do is suggest that you give it a try. Request an API key if you don't already have one (http://www.opencalais.com/GetStarted) and submit a sample of the patent content to the Calais server.
