The OpenCalais API support a new output format: N3.

N3 is a shorthand non-XML serialization of RDF models, designed with human-readability in mind: N3 is much more compact and readable than RDF notation.

If you’ve been using the OpenCalais API’s RDF output format so far, you can rest assured that all required information available to you in the RDF output will be available in the N3 responses as well.

In order to produce output in the N3 format, specify Text/N3 as the output format in your request to OpenCalais.

Since N3 is a shorthand of the RDF output please use the RDF (RDF) description to interpret responses sent by Open Calais.

For example, the Entity Company for "ClearForest Ltd." may look like this in RDF format:

<rdf:Description rdf:about="http://d.opencalais.com/er/company/ralg-tr1r/db523437-cdbe-3788-97e9-f936f04f227c">
     <rdf:type rdf:resource="http://s.opencalais.com/1/type/er/Company"/>
          <c:docId rdf:resource="http://d.opencalais.com/dochash-1/a6212aed-8337-3a97-8f3b-4f1585c443fc"/>
           <!--ClearForest-->
           <c:subject rdf:resource="http://d.opencalais.com/comphash-1/82f5c04d-b15e-3319-9eeb-c1895fd4e3fa"/>
           <c:score>1.0</c:score>
           <c:name>ClearForest Ltd</c:name>
           <c:shortname>ClearForest</c:shortname>
      </rdf:Description>

Using the N3 format, it would look like the following:

 <http://d.opencalais.com/er/company/ralg-tr1r/db523437-cdbe-3788-97e9-f936f04f227c>
      a   <http://s.opencalais.com/1/type/er/Company> ;
      c:docId <http://d.opencalais.com/dochash-1/a6212aed-8337-3a97-8f3b-4f1585c443fc> ;
      c:name "ClearForest Ltd" ;
      c:score "1.0" ;
      c:shortname "ClearForest" ;
      c:subject <http://d.opencalais.com/comphash-1/82f5c04d-b15e-3319-9eeb-c1895fd4e3fa>
