LocalHero is a local search proof of concept that allows the user to explore hyper local news, review, views, and blog posts geo located to specific locations. At the moment only Melbourne, Australia is covered.

LocalHero uses Calais to identify the people, companies, and facilities etc that are mentioned in the geo-located content and augment the tags already added by content creators.

I have written a small tutorial showing how to use features from the 3.1 release of the Calais service to geotag a text and display the identified locations on a map. The tutorial can be found on my web site and a running version of the demo application is here.
