John David Anderson created this impressive mashup using the New York Times newswire API and OpenCalais, and won our recent mashup contest.

At ThoughtGlade.com, you can explore recent New York Times articles by clicking on their headlines toload up some basic NYT-supplied metadata about the article, followed by OpenCalais tagging of the article. Click on a tag name to explore the linked data associated with the tag (e.g., maps and related links). Since some tags are ambiguous (e.g., the dozen or more cities named "Washington") you may be first presented with a list of disambiguation options. This takes a bit more time to load. Click on one of the red disambiguation options to see the details.

The second page to explore can be reached by clicking the "Trends" link on the page to list the top tags for the last week or so, listed from most to least. Each tag type is also listed so that you can see popular tags for that type. For example, you can see which cities or sports are most often mentioned in the NYT.

Articles are retrieved and tagged hourly, so logging in again later in the day gives you a bit more to explore. It's wholly untested in IE, so please view the site in Firefox or Safari.
