information within major metropolitan regions. The site lets members
find eco-friendly local businesses & other local green living info,
rate businesses based on their greenness, share and discuss local environmental
news, discover nearby green events, and form groups with other members.

Ecovian uses Calais in part to power its local environmental news groups, where news regarding environmental issues & policies particular to a particular region are shared and discussed.  Ecovian uses Calais in conjunction with Ecovian's internal webcrawlers to automatically share news stories with group members when such stories will likely be of interest to group members, in order to facilitate the sharing and discussion of regional environmental news.
