Three Ways to Calais

Since its release in early 2008 we've been, to put it simply, amazed at the level of interest that the Calais initiative has generated. Much of that interest has been from individual developers, but we've also talked to and worked with a number of companies ranging from start-ups to Fortune 100 organizations that want to use Calais capabilities as a core component of their commercial services. 

And we're fine with that. The Calais Terms of Service specifically allow it to be used for commercial enterprises, and Open Calais provides no-cost services for up to 40,000 transactions per day per user. But, if you're building a business on it, that simply may not be enough. You may need a guaranteed service level, you may need significantly higher transaction volumes or you may require a very high-security solution. That's where our new commercial offerings enter the picture.

There are now three ways to Calais...

Open Calais

The Open Calais web service remains the same as ever. It contains the full Calais functionality and is available for commercial or non-commercial use. Users are allowed to submit up to 40,000 transactions per day at a maximum rate of four transactions per second. For academic or other similar users we evaluate raising these limits on a case-by-case basis.

Calais Professional and Calais Professional for Publishers

Our new commercial service provides the same functionality as Open Calais but with a production-strength twist. The service provides a high-performance SLA, a daily transaction limit of 100,000 transactions and an enhanced 20 transactions per second rate. Additional volume blocks up to maximum of 2,000,000 transactions per day are available. Calais professional for Publishers extends Calais Professional to meet  needs unique to larger scale publishers. Calais Professional is available as an annual contract. ClearForest On-Premise Solutions

Sometimes you need to bring out the big guns. Our ClearForest solution  installs our ClearForest technology (the intelligence behind Calais) and  Calais extensions within your processing environment. While each solution is customized, our deployed environment can easily scale to tens of millions of transactions per day and many thousands of transactions per minute. In addition to the core Calais functionality, ClearForest offers users the ability to modify our metadata generation engine to create new entities and relations and to incorporate user lexicons.
