Definition

Extracts one of the following types of person references in the text:

  1. A full or partial person name.
  2. A full or partial person name with aliases, nicknames or tribal names. In such cases, the normalized name includes the alias/nickname/tribal name inside quotes or parentheses at the middle or end of the name, according to its appearance in the document. If there is a sequence of two aliases for the same person, they appear with a "/" between them. If the alias/nickname/tribal name appears by itself later in the document, it will also be extracted.
  3. Anaphora of the form he/she/his/him/her, which refers to a person name previously mentioned in the document. The IM resolves the anaphora and extracts it with the relevant person name.

In each case, the name is normalized to the fullest name occurring in the document.

Semantic Metadata: Events and Facts

Acquisition

Definition

Extracts a reference to an acquisition (in the past, present or future) of shares in a company or of assets of another company.

May also be extracted from the document title.

Attributes

Company_Acquirer: Company that acquires another company (optional).

Company_BeingAcquired: Company that is acquired by another company (required).

Status: Extracted based on the context (required).

DateString: Temporal phrase mentioned in the sentence in reference to the event/fact, for example: yesterday, next month, etc. (optional)

Date: An absolute date mentioned in the sentence in reference to the event/fact, or a resolved date based on DateString and relative to the article's publication date. (optional)

Values are as follows:

  • announced: references a completed action (e.g., "announce", "confirm", "consummation", "definitive") or an actual event using a day name or other recent, time indications ("yesterday", "this morning", etc.).
  • planned: references an indication of a plan (e.g., "proposed", "intention", "plan"), a future intention (e.g., "will", "shall"), or the negation of a cancellation (e.g., "was not cancelled", "did not reject").
  • cancelled: references an indication of cancellation (e.g., "failure", "unsuccessful", "terminated").
  • postponed: references an indication of postponement (e.g., "delay", "postponed").
  • rumored: references an action verb, modified to indicate a possibility (e.g., "would", "could", “shouldn't").
  • known: reference to past actions; also used when none of the above value indications are relevant.
